  • Justice Ranjan Gogoi was on Wednesday sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India. He is the first person from the Northeast to reach the top position of judiciary and will have a tenure of a little over 13 months before retiring.
  • Assam Inland Water Transport Regulatory Authority Bill 2018 passed by voice vote.
  • The prestigious Pabindra Nath Sarma and Kunjabala Devi memorial journalism awards for the year 2017 have been conferred on Diganta Sarma, Staff Reporter of weekly Sadin, and Gagan Kumar Nath, the Sipajhar correspondent of vernacular daily Asomiya Khabar, respectively. The awards, instituted in the memory of Late Pabindra Nath Sarma, freedom fighter and senior advocate of Gauhati High Court, and his wife Kunjabala Devi, carry a cash award of Rs 30,000 and a citation each.
  • Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh has been adjudged as the cleanest district in the North East on the basis of the reports of Swachh Survekshan Gramin (SSG)-2018. The SSG-2018 was carried out by a third party independent agency engaged by Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Govt of India from August 1 to 31 last across the country in 698 districts. The evaluation process was based on three parameters – direct observation of sanitation in public places (30 per cent), citizen feedback (35 per cent) and service level progress on sanitation as per Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), IMIS (35 per cent). The State had earlier achieved Open Defecation Free (ODF) status on December 31, 2017. 
  • Sikkim received two awards at the Swachh Bharat Diwas function organised by Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Sikkim was awarded the first prize in the ‘Cleanest State’ category for North East region at the ‘Swachh Bharat Puraskar 2018’ awards. The East District of Sikkim received the third prize in the ‘Cleanest District’ category for North East region
