  • Assam government will reward Rs 1.60 crore to sprint sensation Hima Das for her outstanding performances in the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships at Tampere, Finland in July and the recently-concluded 18th Asian Games
  • Sasanka Hazarika, a 40-year-old graduate science teacher of Dahi Higher Secondary School and a resident of Punia-Pakabangipara village near Mangaldai will receive the National Teacher’s Award for the year 2017 from the State of Assam.
  • Debanjan Mukherjee, Headmaster of Netaji Vidya Bhawan will be presented the State Award by the Government of Assam.
  • The pilot project of the ambitious cyber dome project of the Assam Police has started functioning and it is expected that at least a couple of years will be required to complete the entire project, which will give a major facelift to the facilities of the State police not only in dealing with cyber crimes but also to help the force to go for “predictive policing” based on thorough data analysis.

121-year-old Nandotsav 

  • In continuation of a 121-year-old tradition, the inhabitants of Bhogpara village near Mushalpur celebrated Nandotsav on Monday.
  • As the legend goes Nanda, the chief of Gokul performed various religious rites wishing for a child when they had no children long after their marriage. Finally they got a child in the form of Sri Krishna and the subjects of Nanda expressed their joy by playing and throwing mud at each other.
  • The villagers of Bhogpara have been following this tradition for the last 121 years. From grandparents to grandchildren, the villagers of every age assemble at the Doul temple on this day and get into mud and rejoice by playing in it.
