  • The picturesque State of Sikkim will feature on India’s aviation map from Sunday with the commissioning of a greenfield airport at an altitude of 4,500 ft between the Himalayas. The Pakyong Airport, the tiny hilly State’s first and the country’s 100th functional airport, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Meghalaya Chief Secretary Y Tsering launched the National Mission on Government e-Marketplace (GeM), an online marketplace to facilitate online procurement of common Goods and Services required by various Government Departments, Organisations and Public Sector Units simpler and transparent.
  • Mizoram Government has announced Rs 10 lakh cash reward to young Indian hockey star from Mizoram, Lalremsiami, who was part of the Indian women hockey team that won silver medal at Asian Games in Jakarta. The North Eastern Council (NEC) has also given Rs 5 lakh cash reward to the sports person.
  • The 570th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankaradeva, the 15th-century religious preacher, saint-reformer, and litterateur was observed across the State.
  • The Union Cabinet approved an ordinance to ban the practice of instant triple talaq. Under the proposed ordinance, giving instant triple talaq will be illegal and void and will attract a jail term of three years for the husband.
  • Archery coach Jiwanjot Singh Teja was on Wednesday dropped from the list of Dronacharya award nominees due to a past case of indiscipline while the Sports Ministry cleared all athletes recommended by the selection committee for Khel Ratna, Arjuna and Dhyan Chand awards.
