  5. The Assam Jatiya Bidyalay Educational Trust and Socio-Economic Trust today announced the Assam Jatiya Bidyalay Sanman-2017. The awardees are noted music composer and singer Sunil Dev and distinguished author Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi. The award which was instituted in the year 2014, seeks to honour distinguished persons making commendable contribution in diverse fields of the State such as education, literature, sports, art, social service, etc.

  1. Writer-cum-social worker Rupeswari Gohain (Dangaria) from Kakopothar was honoured with the Nani Neog Memorial Religious and Social Worker Woman Award by the Tinsukia district unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha (TDSS).
  2.  The Finance Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recommended creation of a Rs 50 crore fund for Infrastructure Development for the North East States.
  3. Barak Namami Festival is scheduled to be held on November 18,19 and 20.
  4. Assam Khadi and Village Industries Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said around Rs 12 crore will be spent on the project. A pair of khadi shirts will be gifted to each male State government employee, while female employees can choose between a saree and a kurta. There are around 2,46,676 male employees and 55,889 female employees, according to a recent census.
  5. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will set up a research centre in Guwahati for start-ups, academicians, environmentalists and entrepreneurs.

  1. Government Names Rajnish Kumar as SBI's Next Chairman
  2. The Chairman of National Highways Authority of India Shri Deepak Kumar launched a new multilingual website of the organization. He also launched a Project Monitoring Information System (PMIS) Moblie App that will facilitate close, in-house monitoring of NHAI projects on a mobile phone.
  3. The apex industry body, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) announced the appointment of Param Shah as the new Director for the United Kingdom (UK) operations.
  4. Russia has launched the world's largest nuclear-powered icebreaker ship in a bid to expand its strategic presence in the resource-rich, terrain of the Arctic. The massive vessel, named Sibir (Siberia), was developed as part of a huge push by the Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation to open up crucial shipping lanes in the icy Northern Sea Route.
  5. The Karnataka government launched the Rs. 302-crore Mathru Poorna scheme, aimed at providing free mid-day meals to pregnant and lactating women in rural areas.
  6. The World Health Organization (WHO) appointed Soumya Swaminathan one of two deputy Directors General. This is the first time such a post has been ever created within the organisation. The position is also the highest post held by an Indian in the WHO.
  7. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2017 to Jacques Dubochet, Joachim Frank and Richard Henderson "for developing cryo-electron microscopy for the high-resolution structure determination of biomolecules in solution".

Multiple development and welfare schemes estimated to be over Rs 273 crore were launched on Wednesday for Tingkhong Assembly Constituency under the joint initiative of local MLA Bimal Borah and Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended the grand inaugural ceremony as its chief guest and dedicated the projects to the people of the area.The projects pertained construction of roads, community halls, classrooms, development of sports, conservation works, anti-erosion measures, electrification, beautification, supply of sports items, compensation for land affected, scholarships and distribution of bicycles etc.
  2. The Chief Minister’s free diagnostic services (laboratory services) was inaugurated at the 200-bed Goalpara civil hospital complex on October 2.
