Daily current affairs for Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Exams - 26th August 2017

  1. The Three Year Action Agenda unveiled by the Niti Aayog on Thursday has given top priority in ironing out the transit treaties and the development of physical infrastructure between the northeastern region (NER) and neighbouring countries. The agenda mentioned to closely monitor the ongoing transport connectivity projects, including the East-West Corridor, Special Accelerated Road Development Project (SARDP-NE) and Trans Arunachal Highway.
  2. The Election Commission of India has introduced a new internet-based portal/software ‘eronet’ for facilitation of various activities relating to electoral rolls such as the inclusion, deletion, correction and transfer of names, including providing the new photo identity cards. The new software has already been introduced in different states of India. This software will be launched in Assam on August 28.
  3. Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary inaugurated the three-day ‘Battery Vehicle Tech Expo’ at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre. 
  • 28 electric vehicle companies from across the country, including one each from China and Japan are participating in the expo. 
  • The Minister also inaugurated the office of the Chairman, Assam Trade Promotion Organisation (ATPO) at the trade centre.
  • The Minister stated that the e-rickshaw would be included for funding under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and the upcoming Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (SVAYEM) scheme of the Industries and Commerce Department, so that it can be a source of income for unemployed youths.
